We are seeking staff who are excited by the prospect of contributing to our organisation’s leading-edge transport policy and its implementation.
The Ministry is looking for candidates with tertiary qualifications and/or work experience in economics, law, social sciences, statistics, business and/or environmental or engineering sciences. To be successful in these roles you need to be comfortable working both on your own and in a wide range of teams, have a very high standard of written and interpersonal skills, be comfortable with numbers and have an eye for detail.
The successful candidates will be deployed into a transport sector team, but utilised across a number of project assignments within the Ministry as required. Potential areas for utilisation in projects extent across transport aspects including road, rail, aviation and maritime.
Experience in analysis and policy development in the public sector, or an understanding of Government policy making procedures and an ability to interpret legislation are all highly desirable, as is practical work experience in the transport sector and experience with the Resource Management Act.

The Ministry of Transport’s Auckland team is based in the Government Urban and Economic Government Office (GUEDO) in Auckland. The successful candidate will be based in the Auckland transport team but will also have the opportunity to work on projects across the Ministry and with other government agencies in GUEDO.

Office Services Assistant
The Ministry of Transport is seeking an Office Services Assistant who will be responsible for the smooth running of our office and equipment services.
You will need to be hands on, motivated and confident, able to communicate with and relate to all kinds of people, and be a dependable member of our team.
The position holder’s key responsibilities are to ensure that our meeting rooms and kitchens function properly, and to assist with Ministry functions.
In addition you will be providing backup cover on reception which will involve receiving and assisting visitors, answering incoming telephone calls, providing information to assist callers, administering the admin helpdesk and arranging couriers.
Other tasks will include logging equipment/ building fault calls and taking the appropriate follow up action.
You will need to:
- be able to work without close supervision
- have a calm proactive approach under pressure
- have the ability to review and reorganise work priorities
- have a willing and ‘can do’ attitude
- have good customer service skills
- be competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
- have a sense of humour.
