Accessibility

The Ministry of Transport website has been specially designed for people with disabilities. It has features that are aimed at people with visual impairment and those who prefer to use the keyboard rather than a mouse.

Using the site without a mouse

The site can be used without a mouse. There are shortcut keys that will take you to commonly used pages such as the home page and the search page.

To use these shortcut keys hold down the ALT key (PC) or CONTROL key (Apple Macintosh) and then one of the keys in the table below. In some browsers you may have to press enter to confirm your choice. In the Opera 7 browser press Shift-Esc, release those keys, and then press your chosen access key.

Statement on the use of macrons

The Ministry of Transport Te Reo Policy supports the correct use of the Māori language and in particular the Māori Language Commission guideline that macrons be used in Māori words where appropriate.

However, current technology and limited standardisation prevents the accurate display of macrons. For this reason, we are making only limited use of macrons at this time. We are monitoring IT developments and will address the issue as soon as we can display macrons correctly across all browser platforms
