A range of organisations carry out road safety research in New Zealand. The Ministry of Transport is responsible for co-ordinating this research to ensure resources are used to the best advantage. As part of this process the Ministry publishes a yearly summary of road safety research entitled New Zealand Road Safety Research.

The Road Safety Trust funds community safety initiatives, training, education, overseas travel, attendance at conferences and private sector technological developments which are beneficial to road safety. The Technical Advisory Committee advises on and oversees all research funded by the Road Safety Trust.

The Trust also offers Road Safety Research Scholarships for Masters and Doctoral candidates which are administered by the NZ Vice Chancellors' Committee. Applications for these close on 1 October each year. You can download an application form for the scholarship here.
