Choke the Smoke

We've all been stuck behind a vehicle that belches out so much smoke you can barely see and your car fills with fumes. But what comes out of a tailpipe is more than just unpleasant and smelly, it's dangerous. Vehicle emissions have an impact on New Zealanders' health and the environment.

A number of measures have been introduced to reduce vehicle emissions. Among these, a visible smoke check was introduced from 27 October 2006 for vehicles when they are taken for a warrant or certificate of fitness. An information campaign Choke the Smoke will tell the public about the changes.
