The
Public Transport Management Act 2008 increases the powers of regional councils to plan and manage public transport services. The Act will enable regional councils to require that all or any services in their region must be contracted or impose controls (e.g. quality and performance standards) on commercial public transport services. The Act also clarifies when a regional public transport plan is needed, what its purpose is and the process for developing a plan.
