The Standard recommends noise criteria that should be applied to road traffic noise from new or altered roads. The Standard sets out procedures and methods for the prediction, measurement, assessment and guidelines for mitigation of road traffic noise.

This Standard is intended to be used primarily by local authorities, road controlling authorities, as well as developers who are constructing or altering roads as part of a subdivision or land use development. The Standard seeks to promote consistent decision-making in management of road traffic noise.

To comment on the Standard or for more information go to Standards NZ. Comments must be sent to Standards NZ by 12 June 2009.
