Do you own a jalopy, a lemon or a heap?
The Ministry of Transport is offering motorists in Wellington and Christchurch instant rewards when they scrap unwanted cars during May 2009. Participating vehicle recyclers will also be giving these motorists the chance to win a brand new Toyota Corolla diesel car.
It’s all part of a vehicle scrappage trial being run by the Government. The trial aims to find the best ways of encouraging older vehicles off New Zealand roads and out of the vehicle fleet. This will help improve our road safety and our air quality. To improve research on these issues, scrapped vehicles will undergo a short safety check and (VTNZ) Vehicle Testing New Zealand will test the emissions to help us find out more about the types of vehicles being scrapped.
The owners of the first 150 cars that meet the criteria to be scrapped in each city will receive a Snapper or Metro card loaded with $250 and go in the draw to win the Corolla. Those who are not among the first 150, but still scrap their car with either Metalcorp Ltd or Wellington Scrap Metals during May 2009 can still go in the draw for the car.
Contact Wellington Scrap Metals on (04) 4739277 or take your car to their yard at:
18 Tyers Road
Ngauranga Gorge
Wellington
In Christchurch call MetalCorp Ltd on (03) 3492780 or visit them at:
615 Halswell Junction Road
Hornby
Christchurch
Sorry, but scooters and motorbikes are not eligible, but cars, vans, utes, trucks and buses are all welcome. Vehicles must have a Warrant of Fitness or Certificate of Fitness or be no more than two months outside of Warrant of Fitness or Certificate of Fitness, and be drivable. Owners must deregister their vehicle and fill out a short questionnaire. Both companies will pick up vehicles with expired Warrant of Fitness.
The Ministry of Transport and NZ Transport Agency’s vehicle scrappage trial is designed to help find the best ways of encouraging older vehicles from the New Zealand fleet. It will also help research about the safety and emissions of vehicles that are near the end of their working life.
