Safer Journeys - a road safety strategy to 2020
The Ministry is preparing a road safety strategy called Safer Journeys to take us through to 2020. In August a discussion document was launched that presents New Zealand's key road safety challenges and outlines 60 possible initiatives to address them. Public consultation ran from 18 August 2009 to 5pm on 02 October 2009.
More than 1400 submissions have been received. Over 1,000 people have ranked the proposed initiatives they think would best improve road safety.
The Ministry is now summarising the comments and views received for use in the development of the ten-year road safety strategy. This is planned to be released in December 2009 and initial road safety actions will be implemented over the next year or so.
