Changes in TMIF Version 2
The latest release of the Transport Monitoring Indicator Framework (TMIF), version 2, contains a number of changes from its predecessor.
The biggest change is that version 2 is a theme-based framework, not an outcome-based framework as was version 1. This is to ensure that the framework is durable enough to allow for continued monitoring in times of context change, such as a change of government direction.
Some of the names of the indicator sets have changed in order to ensure the framework is entirely theme-based, and that the set name accurately describes the indicators held within each set. Accordingly, some indicators have been moved to different indicator sets. These include:
- ‘Assisting economic development’ has become ‘Freight and the transport industry’.
- ‘Travel behaviour’ has become ‘Travel patterns’.
- ‘Lifecycle management of vehicles and infrastructure’ has become ‘Infrastructure and investment’.
- The indicators within the old indicator set ‘Transport system resource use’ have been reallocated to the ‘Environmental impact of transport’ indicator set.
- A new indicator set, ‘Transport-related price indices’, has been created. This set includes data on transport-related prices, including fuel and construction prices.
- New indicators have been added. These include information on fuel prices, road user charge prices, and construction prices.
As a result of these changes the indicator reference codes for some of the indicators may have changed.
