Napier data Napier has provided the Ministry with additional information correcting the calculation of its ship and vessel rates in line with the Waterline/BITRE methodology. 
Port facilties
Auckland Gantry cranes. Cargo via container terminals only.
Tauranga Gantry cranes. Cargo via container terminals only. One crane added during 2009.
Napier Mobile cranes.
Wellington Gantry cranes. Cargo via container terminals only. One crane removed during 2010.
Lyttelton Gantry cranes. Cargo via container terminals only. Some results affected by 2010/11 earthquakes.
Otago Gantry cranes. Cargo via container terminals only.

Data source Data supplied by the ports, and is based on container movements (not TEU, or twenty foot equivalents) involving container ships
Crane rate The number of containers a crane lifts on and off a container ship in an hour
Ship rate The number of containers moved on and off a container ship in an hour
Vessel rate The number of containers moved on and off a container ship in an hour of labour
The difference between ship and vessel rates is due to allocated crane hours/elapsed crane hours
Availability of forecast data No
