Definition	Seatbelt wearing by adults (aged 15+) in the front seat of cars (driver and passenger) on open and urban roads; seatbelt wearing by adults (aged 15+) in the left or right rear seat of cars travelling to or from the open road; child restraint use by children under 5 on urban roads.
Frequency	Annual from 1996
Disaggregation	National, regional, Police District, Police Area (all surveys), Local Authority (for front seat belt survey).
Timeliness	Front seatbelt survey results available in July; Rear seatbelt and child restraint survey results available in February.
Quality of the data	The regional surveys are designed to track changes over time in restraint use within regions, they are not designed to provide valid comparisons between regions.
