As of 12 May 2008, Wayne Donnelly became Acting Chief Executive for the Ministry of Transport. He brings extensive knowledge of the transport sector, having held chief executive roles in transport related Crown Entities, and strong networks across central and local government.
Immediately prior to his role at the Ministry, Wayne was Chief Executive of Land Transport New Zealand, a position he held since the agency was established in December 2004.
Before his role at Land Transport New Zealand, Wayne was the Chief Executive of Transfund New Zealand, a Crown entity responsible for the allocation of government funding for land transport services in New Zealand. Wayne has also been Chief Executive of Rodney District Council and has held senior positions at Auckland City Council, working on projects such as the Viaduct Basin, Britomart and the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.
Wayne worked as a civil engineer prior to entering the public service. He holds a first class Honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury.
