Update of the New Zealand Transport Strategy

Update of the New Zealand Transport Strategy

In 2008, the government will publish an update of the New Zealand Transport Strategy.

This updated Strategy will:
  • provide direction for the transport sector until 2040, in the context of the government’s sustainability agenda and other government strategies in the areas of energy and energy efficiency
  • translate that direction into targets for the transport sector and actions to achieve the high-level targets
  • provide clearer guidelines for decisions about funding allocations.
The discussion paper, Sustainable Transport, was published in December 2007 as an important first step towards updating the Strategy. In addition, a number of consultation events were held between December 2007 and March 2008. Feedback from key stakeholders has helped shape the development of the Strategy which will be published in the next few months.
