Ministry of Transport

vehicle emissions

The Government has announced its decision to develop and introduce measures to reduce the growing environmental and harmful health impacts of vehicle emissions in New Zealand.

Vehicles emit harmful emissions in the form of particulates, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, ozone and benzene, and greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide which contribute to climate change.

Here you will find measures which focus on three areas of harmful vehicle emissions: new entrants to the vehicle fleet, the in-service vehicle fleet, and the end-of-life vehicle fleet, and will come into force progressively.
