young drivers

In 2006 young drivers (those aged 15-24) were involved in 121 fatal traffic crashes, 813 serious injury crashes and 3768 minor injury crashes. Of these crashes, the 15 to 24 year old drivers were at fault in 92 of the fatal accidents, 628 of the serious injury crashes and 2894 of the minor injury crashes, resulting in 108 deaths, 821 serious injuries and 4329 minor injuries.

The total social cost of crashes where 15 to 24 year old drivers were at fault, was nearly $1 billion. This almost one third of the social cost associated with all injury crashes.
