Core dashboard information

Definition

Estimated vehicle kilometres travelled on all roads by region by calendar year. The available VKT data for these four regions is inconsistent. Therefore, they have been estimated by a different method than the regions shown in RD086. The estimates shown here were developed for each region by using NZTA Road Assessment and Maintenance Management (RAMM) data to calculate the fraction of the four-region total for the region (that is, VKTs for the region according to RAMM / VKTs for the four regions combined according to RAMM) and multiplying this fraction by the 'Other Regions' total shown in RD087.

Quality of the data The VKT estimates for these four regions are very approximate. A background paper discussing the two available sources of VKT data, and the difficulties involved in reconciling them, is available here.
