The Government’s ITS Action Plan was released on 18 June 2014. It takes a multimodal, multiagency approach to the introduction of ITS in New Zealand over the next four years.
The Action Plan outlines the role government departments and transport agencies will play in ensuring New Zealand gets the greatest benefit from ITS and achieves value for money when investing in infrastructure.
It outlines the Government’s strategic approach to encouraging and enabling these technologies in New Zealand.
There are a number of key areas where the Government has an essential role to play in advancing the adoption of ITS technologies. These include:
- strategic leadership, direction setting and collaboration
- providing a supportive regulatory environment
- funding and procuring infrastructure or services
- using the information and opportunities provided by ITS.
