Over the last 10 years, the number of overseas visitors has increased by 51%. Overseas trips by New Zealand residents have grown by 44%. Many airports have responded to growth by upgrading their facilities for aircraft and passengers.

Auckland Airport accounts for about three-quarters of international arrivals and departures. Despite growth at all 4 major international airports (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Queenstown), Auckland's share has changed little over the past 11 years.
