The Supplementary Fund Protocol is the third tier of the International Oil Pollution Compensation that provides up to $1.424 billion for oil pollution damage from oil tankers.

New Zealand currently has access to compensation for oil tanker spills of up to $385 million, through its accession to the first two tiers of the International Oil Pollution Compensation funds.
