This dashboard provides a summary of travel demand across New Zealand's transport network as well as fuel supply and prices. This dashboard will be updated daily.

What it shows
- Kilometres travelled by heavy and light commercial vehicles on a daily basis. We expect to include light vehicle data shortly.
- Passenger numbers on public transport in Auckland (bus, rail and ferry) and Wellington (bus and rail).
- The number of scheduled flight departures for passengers and freight in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown.
- The number of days of fuel cover, sourced from MBIE, covering petrol, diesel and jet fuel.
- The changes in the prices of petrol, diesel and jet fuel.

Each chart lists caveats and data sources. Please read these carefully.
About this data
Key data sources used in this dashboard include:
- Commercial vehicle kilometres travelled (VKT) data from CompassIOT telematics. This data is collected electronically by Compass IOT from vehicles they monitor. This is different and not related to NZTA's traffic monitoring system data.
- Aviation: Airport Coordination Limited (ACL) schedule data (AKL, CHC, WLG, ZQN)
- Public Transport Auckland: AT HOP + contactless (bus, rail and ferry)
- Public Transport Wellington: GWRC patronage data (bus and rail)
- Fuel stock: Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Fuel stock update (fetched from https://www.mbie.govt.nz/about/news/fuel-stocks-update(external link))
All percentage change figures are relative to the period 9–22 February 2026.
