Consultation has begun on proposed new regulations to support the modernisation of New Zealand’s road user charges (RUC) system.
The proposed regulations are a key part of the Government’s reforms of the RUC system and are aimed at ensuring that the new system is practical, fair and user-friendly.
The proposed regulations cover the technical aspects of RUC including:
- The use of electronic distance recorders
- Approval of road user charges providers
- Performance and monitoring
- Information protection and privacy
- Alternatives payment methods
The new regulations will focus on outcomes rather than provide prescriptive rules that restricts the use of new technology and services.
The consultation is open until 12 June. To find out more about this consultation and how to make a submission please visit our consultations page(external link).
