What you need to know

There are around 2,800 public transport buses in operation in New Zealand and around 500 of these are electric buses.

In January 2021, the Government announced it is committed to decarbonising the public transport bus fleet. From 1 July 2025, the Government only allows zero-emission public transport buses to be purchased, which will ensure the fleet decarbonises over time.
