The voluntary Aviation Passenger Information Charter helps passengers access clear, timely and easy-to-understand information throughout their journey.
Airline passengers in New Zealand have protections under the Civil Aviation Act 2023, general consumer law and airlines’ terms of carriage. However, these protections can be complex, and passengers may not always understand their rights, or know where to find information about them.
Participation is voluntary. The Charter does not create legally enforceable rights or obligations, or change airlines’ existing legal obligations. It asks airlines to take reasonable steps, appropriate to their size and resources, and recognises that different business models and systems may shape how they meet its commitments.
The Charter was finalised on 30 October 2026.
We are now accepting signatories from airlines who are willing to agree to the commitments outlined in the Charter.
